Michael Bell MRICS
Managing Director
Michael was born and brought up in North Norfolk living on a large mixed enterprise farm. Having gained a BSc(Hons) in Rural Enterprise and Land Management at Harper Adams University and completing a placement with George F White at their Alnwick office, he returned as a graduate in the summer of 2009. Soon after returning he passed his Assessment of Professional Competency to become a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.  After a number of years with George F White, building up a diverse client base and gaining further experience in all aspects of rural surveying, he became a RICS Registered Valuer.  Michael then took responsibility for the expansion of George F White when they opened their Scottish Borders office in Duns following the firms acquisition of Farm Business Services in October 2014.  When offered the opportunity to join Buccleuch Rural Solutions as a Director in September 2015 Michael was delighted to accept to be able to assist with the expanding workload and play a part in continuing to drive the business forward.

Alan grew up on the family farm in Lanarkshire and gained an HND in Agriculture at the Edinburgh School of Agriculture in 1975. He began his land agency career with Smiths Gore, leaving in 1987 to take up a position with Kelso-based FBR, which was acquired by the Buccleuch Group in 2005. Having worked for the company for 22 years, Alan was Managing Director for five years prior to its sale in November 2009. Alan is also a member of The Institute of Arbitrators and a panel valuer for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation.

Andy Wiseman NDF MSC MICFor
Andy is a graduate of the National School of Forestry at Newton Rigg, a post graduate of Aberdeen University and has been a professional Chartered forester since 1997.  He has worked as a forest manager across the contracting, public and private sectors in England, Wales and Scotland. Andy has wide experience in managing lowland broadleaved woodlands and upland conifer forests from time with the Blenheim Estates in Oxfordshire and as a Buccleuch Head Forester on the Bowhill Estate near Selkirk. He has specialist experience in added value operations such as firewood production, small scale sawmilling, large scale biomass woodfuel production and biomass boiler installation. With the Forestry Commission, Andy had responsibility for the management of footpaths, recreation facilities and wildlife management. He represents Buccleuch on various red squirrel conservation groups and is the chairman of the environmental charity, The European Squirrel Initiative.

Paul Richardson
Assistant Rural Advisor
Paul was brought up in Northumberland before attending Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College in Leicestershire. Having graduated with a BA(Hons) in Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Northumbria University, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and commissioned into Second Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Paul served in a variety of countries around the world, including an operational tour of Afghanistan before leaving the army and settling in the Scottish Borders in 2014. Prior to joining Buccleuch Rural Solutions he worked as a Business Analyst for Baillie Gifford & Co. in Edinburgh, also gaining the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) and Investment Management Certificate (IMC). Paul was delighted to accept the Assistant Rural Advisor role and is looking forward to contributing to the continued success of the business and our clients. In his spare time, he enjoys country pursuits, helping on the farm at home and is excited to get back to his rural roots.
